New video is up on my YouTube channel now.
So back in the ’90s, I built one of my first DIY inventions—a beach umbrella skateboard land yacht. Armed with nothing but a skateboard, an umbrella, and a very questionable understanding of both aerodynamics and road rules, I figured, why not? So, I set sail.
I only have vague memories of how “well” it worked, but I do remember one key moment where the sail (umbrella) powered up, running me down wind along the footpath. When the footpath ended I found myself powering through an intersection with little steering control and no brakes.
Now, 30 years later, I’m rebuilding this wind-powered beast to see if it was actually a good idea—or just a childhood disaster waiting to happen.
Cheers
